Program Management with Quam

Lintra has developed an extension to the Quam that allows projects to be structured on three levels: Programs, projects and subprojects. Fixed milestones can be defined in programs and inherited to the corresponding lower project levels. Program and project rooms contain additional cockpit functions with which program and project managers can obtain an up-to-date overview of the status of their projects. Project-related data is aggregated from the subproject level to the program level.

3-level structure for better overview

In more complex project-oriented organisations, projects with related content are often managed across programmes. And even within a project, individual subprojects are often already so complex that they have individual subproject organisations at their disposal and can act autonomously in parts in relation to the main project, as long as the specifications, e.g. milestones, are observed.

Along these requirements, a 3-level architecture can be implemented with the Quam, in which programs are set up that bundle projects that serve a common goal, whereby milestones predefined in the program are inherited from the associated projects. Programs receive their own program space, in whose program cockpit essential data from the projects are aggregated. In this way, programme managers are provided with aggregated information without being overwhelmed by the complexity of the individual projects, which can affect very different subject areas.

Overview through allocation

If it also seems appropriate to equip individual subprojects with their own autonomous project organisation, separate subproject spaces can also be created for subprojects that must always be assigned to exactly one project. Projects then bundle or contain subprojects and aggregate their data. Also here the milestones of the project are inherited to the subproject and also here the project cockpit informs about the essential parameters of the assigned subprojects.

Using these levels, even very complex projects can be centrally planned and controlled in the Quam without overtaxing the individual planning levels and subject-specific teams with the full complexity of the overall project.
