Planning projects - Efficient project planning with Gantt chart and project structure plan

The Gantt chart is the central instrument of project management for planning and displaying the chronological sequence of work packages graphically in the form of bars on the time axis. The Gantt diagram in Quam is supplemented by a graphical project structure plan (PSP) as a subdivision of the project into planable and controllable subprojects and work packages.

This combined presentation form greatly increases the overview during project planning and thus enables faster and simpler planning, both for the project manager and for the project team members.

Gantt diagram for planning - always keeping time in view

In planning mode, the Gantt chart is used to create and edit the project plan by the project manager and the project management office. Once a planning status has been approved, the project plan becomes visible to the team members.

Quam Project Management can optionally be run in a dual mode that distinguishes three planning levels instead of just one: planning mode, approved project plan, original (base) plan. The Quam import-export feature allows project plans to be transferred from Quam to Microsoft Project and from Microsoft Project to Quam.

Approved project plan - overview of project tasks and actual data

The approved project plan is the project plan that is visible to all team members. In this plan, the project team can edit existing project tasks, but cannot delete existing ones or create new tasks. Graphical indicators provide visual information about the status of the work packages with regard to different dimensions.

In this planning level, the actual data is reported back by the project team (actual effort, actual costs, quality, completion wheel, status).

Critical path - focus on all important planning elements

The critical path is defined as the concatenation of project objects whose change in time shifts the end date of the overall project. The project planning elements that lie on the critical path essentially determine the course of the project and are therefore under special consideration by the project management.

For better visibility, the critical path can be shown in the Gantt chart and displayed in red. The progress of the individual planning elements can also be viewed here using graphical indicators.

Work Breakdown Structure - Progress Overview of Subprojects

The work breakdown structure (WBS) is the entry point into the project. The navigation and control tool, which is intended to create a common understanding of the project scope for all project members, opens directly on the start page of the project management module.

The work breakdown structure provides an overview of the subprojects and work packages of the project without time relationship, and shows via graphical indicators whether the project is proceeding according to plan and if not, where the actual values deviate from the target values. Click through your project with the PSP and navigate directly to the desired subprojects and work packages.

Configuration and Versioning - Personal Settings in the Gantt Chart

You have the option of specifying which additional columns are to be displayed in the Gantt chart.

In addition, a comparison function makes differences between the already approved plan and the currently planned project plan visible. New elements of the project plan and differences in existing elements are highlighted in color. You can also restore the last approved plan in planning mode.
